Brook Ziporyn (religion, Chicago) will share new work with us in the CFCP workshop. His paper will examine what light Tiantai Buddhist thought can shed on why so many early human societies seem to have engaged in different forms of ritual violence.
“Mimetic Scapegoating, Vicarious Self-Squandering, or Both? A Neo-Tiantai Approach to Girard, Bataille, and the Antinomies of Human Violence and Agency”
Please RSVP to Zeb Dempsey at tzdempse@usc.edu for the pre-read materials for this workshop.
